Making Space for Stillness

This spring has been wonderfully full with trips back and forth between Colorado and Arizona, precious family time, and making memories with the people I love most. One of my favorite moments was celebrating Mother’s Day with my grandchildren and reflecting on how full life can feel for mothers, grandmothers, and female caretakers who spend so much of their time caring for others.

As much as I have loved every minute of the travel and activity, it has also reminded me how easy it is to stay in perpetual “go mode.” In a recent yoga class, my instructor shared that sometimes being “bored” is actually a blessing because it’s often in those quiet moments that creativity, clarity, gratitude, and rest begin to appear.

This spring was filled with laughter, adventure, celebrations, and memories I would not trade for anything. But before summer schedules take over, I want to intentionally make room for a little more stillness. Slower mornings, quiet afternoons, and moments without a plan may be exactly what I need before the next busy season begins.

Looking at my Mother’s Day photo with my grandkids reminds me that while busy seasons are beautiful, so are the pauses in between. Both are part of a full and meaningful life, and I’m learning that making room for a little stillness may be exactly what I need before the next adventure begins.
