This spring I visited eight first-grade classrooms to share my children’s book and celebrate the start of pumpkin planting season. Along with reading the story, the visit included a fun, interactive lesson where students learned the stages of pumpkin growth through engaging actions and a catchy song.
Each child also went home with a packet of pumpkin seeds, excited to start their own garden or pumpkin patch. It was a fun way to connect reading with hands-on learning and the wonders of nature.
Inspired by the students, I planted our family pumpkin patch last weekend, choosing three varieties from the generous seed donations I received last fall: classic Jack-O-Lantern pumpkins for Halloween carving with the grandkids, a Mini Harvest Blend perfect for both cooking and decoration, and charming white pumpkins—just because!
There’s something deeply satisfying about digging in the dirt, tucking in a tiny seed, and watching it grow with a little care and a lot of love.
If you’re plant pumpkins this year, I would love to hear what varieties you’ve chosen—and the special memories you’re hoping to grow alongside them.
Warmly,
~Wendy
