I recently attended a yoga class where the instructor shared a simple thought that has stayed with me: “The pose begins when you want to leave it.” There was something quietly true about it, especially as we settle into January.
January often feels like the moment when enthusiasm fades and effort becomes more noticeable. New Year’s resolutions that seemed exciting just weeks ago can start to feel inconvenient or even uncomfortable. This is usually the point when we’re tempted to loosen our grip or walk away.
But maybe this is where things actually begin. When life feels difficult, when routines get hard, or when motivation dips, that may be the exact place growth is happening. Much like holding a challenging pose, strength is built by staying present just a little longer than feels comfortable.
January asks us to do just that — to remain committed even when the novelty wears off. It’s not about pushing harder, but about showing up with intention and patience. Progress often looks quieter than we expect.
Just as staying in a challenging yoga pose, if we allow ourselves to stay with what’s uncomfortable, we may find ourselves stronger on the other side. And as January unfolds, there’s something hopeful in knowing that consistency, not perfection, is what carries us forward.
Warmly,
~Wendy
